Arepas
Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, these versatile corn cakes are a staple of Colombian and Venezuelan cuisine, perfect for stuffing or serving as a side.
Ingredients
- 1 cup corn flour
- 1¼ cup warm water or broth
- 1 tsp salt
Steps
- In a bowl, combine corn flour and salt. Gradually add warm water or broth, mixing until a smooth dough forms.
- Let the dough rest for 5 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and shape each into a round patty, about 3 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch thick.
- Heat a lightly greased skillet over medium heat. Cook arepas for 3-5 minutes per side, until a light crust forms.
- Transfer the seared arepas to a baking dish.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes, or until they sound hollow when tapped.
