Ingredients

  • 4 Bratwurst sausages
  • 16 oz Sauerkraut
  • ½ Yellow onion
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • ½ cup Beer (lager or pilsner) (optional)
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 2 tbsp Whole grain mustard (optional)
  • 4 Hot dog buns or crusty bread (optional)

  1. Slice the yellow onion thinly.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the bratwurst and brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Add the sliced onions to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. If using, pour in the beer and bring to a simmer.
  4. Drain the sauerkraut and add it to the skillet with the bratwurst and onions. Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the bratwurst are cooked through and the sauerkraut is heated.
  5. Serve the bratwurst and sauerkraut warm with a selection of mustards and, if desired, on buns or with crusty bread.
