Bratwurst with Sauerkraut and Mustard
Enjoy classic German-style bratwurst, pan-fried to perfection and served with tangy sauerkraut and a selection of mustards.
Ingredients
- 4 Bratwurst sausages
- 16 oz Sauerkraut
- ½ Yellow onion
- 1 tbsp Vegetable oil
- ½ cup Beer (lager or pilsner) (optional)
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional)
- 2 tbsp Whole grain mustard (optional)
- 4 Hot dog buns or crusty bread (optional)
Steps
- Slice the yellow onion thinly.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the bratwurst and brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.
- Add the sliced onions to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. If using, pour in the beer and bring to a simmer.
- Drain the sauerkraut and add it to the skillet with the bratwurst and onions. Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the bratwurst are cooked through and the sauerkraut is heated.
- Serve the bratwurst and sauerkraut warm with a selection of mustards and, if desired, on buns or with crusty bread.
