Classic Calzones
Enjoy a delicious, savory Italian turnover filled with rich ricotta, mozzarella, and your favorite pizza toppings, baked to golden perfection.
Ingredients
- 1 lb pizza dough
- 1½ cup ricotta cheese
- 1½ cup mozzarella cheese
- ¼ cup Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 1 cup marinara sauce (optional)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Steps
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). In a medium bowl, combine ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, egg, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Divide pizza dough into 4 equal portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion into an 8-inch circle.
- Spoon about 1/4 of the cheese mixture onto one half of each dough circle, leaving a 1-inch border.
- Fold the other half of the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Crimp the edges tightly to seal, or use a fork.
- Place calzones on a baking sheet. Brush tops with olive oil.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed. Serve hot, with marinara sauce for dipping if desired.
