Keema Matar

Ingredients

  • 1¼ lb ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 14½ oz canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1½ cup frozen green peas
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ¾ tsp cumin powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • ½ tsp red chili powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro (optional)
  • 2 cup basmati rice (optional)

Steps

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet or pot over medium-high heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until softened and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned.
  3. Drain any excess fat. Add coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder (if using), and salt. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Pour in crushed tomatoes, bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Stir in frozen green peas and garam masala. Cover and cook for another 5-7 minutes, or until peas are tender.
  6. Garnish with fresh cilantro, if desired. Serve hot, optionally with basmati rice.
