Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ lb ground pork
  • ½ onion
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup bread crumbs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cup beef broth
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp allspice
  • ⅛ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ cup lingonberry jam (optional)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley (optional)

Steps

  1. Finely dice the onion and sauté in 1 tablespoon butter until softened. Let cool.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, cooled onion, egg, bread crumbs, milk, salt, pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. Mix gently until just combined.
  3. Form the mixture into small, 1-inch meatballs.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the meatballs in batches, then remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, melt 1 tablespoon butter. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute to make a roux. Gradually whisk in beef broth and heavy cream, bringing to a simmer.
  6. Return the meatballs to the skillet with the gravy. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until cooked through.
  7. Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh parsley and a side of lingonberry jam.
