Turkey Swedish Meatballs
Enjoy a lighter take on classic Swedish meatballs, featuring tender ground turkey in a rich, creamy gravy, perfect over noodles or mashed potatoes.
Ingredients
- 1½ lb ground turkey
- ½ onion
- 2 clove garlic
- ½ cup bread crumbs
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup milk
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cup beef broth
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ¾ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp allspice
- ⅛ tsp nutmeg
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley (optional)
Steps
- Finely mince half an onion and garlic. In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, minced onion, minced garlic, bread crumbs, egg, milk, 0.5 tsp salt, 0.25 tsp black pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. Mix gently until just combined.
- Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the meatballs in batches until golden on all sides, then remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, to create a roux.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and stir in heavy cream, remaining salt, and pepper.
- Return the browned meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired, over egg noodles or mashed potatoes.
