Arepa Pabellón
A classic Venezuelan arepa generously stuffed with savory shredded beef, sweet plantains, black beans, and fresh pico de gallo.
Ingredients
- 4 arepas
- ½ cup mozzarella cheese
- 1 lb shredded beef
- 15 oz black beans
- 2 ripe plantains
- 1 tomato
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- ½ cup pico de gallo (optional)
- ¼ cup guacamole (optional)
Steps
- Prepare the shredded beef in a skillet, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Keep warm.
- Heat the black beans in a small saucepan over medium heat until warmed through.
- Fry or grill the ripe plantains until golden and tender, then slice them into bite-sized pieces.
- Finely dice the tomato for the pico de gallo or as a fresh topping.
- Preheat a grill or pan over medium-high heat. Grill the arepas for 3-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and heated through.
- Carefully slice each arepa horizontally along one edge, creating a pocket.
- Fill each arepa with shredded beef, black beans, ripe plantains, and diced tomato.
- Serve immediately, optionally with pico de gallo or guacamole on the side.
