Beef with Broccoli
A classic Chinese-American stir-fry featuring tender beef and crisp broccoli florets in a savory brown sauce, perfect for a quick weeknight meal.
Ingredients
- 1½ lb flank steak
- 1½ lb broccoli florets
- ½ cup soy sauce
- ½ cup beef broth
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp ginger, minced
- 2 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 cup white rice (optional)
Steps
- Slice the flank steak thinly against the grain. In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and 1 tablespoon water. Add the beef and toss to coat.
- In another bowl, whisk together the remaining 1/4 cup soy sauce, beef broth, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, and brown sugar to make the sauce.
- Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-5 minutes until tender-crisp. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- Add the remaining 1 tablespoon vegetable oil to the skillet. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Do not overcrowd; cook in batches if necessary.
- Return all the cooked beef to the skillet. Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
- Add the cooked broccoli back to the skillet and toss to coat everything evenly in the sauce.
- Serve immediately, optionally over steamed white rice.
