Cuban Sandwich

A classic Cuban sandwich features layers of roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard on crusty Cuban bread, pressed until golden and warm.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Cuban bread
  • 4 tbsp Yellow mustard
  • ¾ lb Roasted pork (lechon asado)
  • ½ lb Deli ham
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • ½ cup Dill pickle slices
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted butter

Steps

  1. Slice the Cuban bread horizontally and spread yellow mustard generously on both cut sides of each half.
  2. Layer the bottom half of each sandwich with roasted pork, then ham, Swiss cheese, and dill pickle slices.
  3. Place the top half of the bread over the fillings to complete the sandwiches.
  4. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter.
  5. Place two sandwiches in the skillet, press down firmly with a spatula or another heavy pan, and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese is melted. Repeat with remaining butter and sandwiches.
  6. Remove from heat, slice each sandwich in half diagonally, and serve immediately.
