Italian Sausage with Peppers and Onions
A classic Italian-American dish featuring savory Italian sausage, tender bell peppers, and sweet onions, perfect for a hearty meal.
Ingredients
- 1½ lb Italian sausage links
- 3 medium Bell peppers (red, green, or yellow)
- 1 large Yellow onion
- 3 cloves Garlic
- 2 tbsp Olive oil
- 14½ oz Crushed tomatoes (optional)
- ½ tsp Dried oregano
- ½ tsp Salt
- ¼ tsp Black pepper
- 4 Hoagie rolls (optional)
- 2 tbsp Fresh parsley (optional)
Steps
- Slice bell peppers and onion into strips. Mince garlic.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add Italian sausage links and brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove sausage and set aside.
- Add sliced peppers and onions to the same skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 8-10 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Return sausage to the skillet with the vegetables. If using, stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until sausage is cooked through and vegetables are tender.
- Serve hot, either as is or on hoagie rolls. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
