Matar Paneer
A classic Indian vegetarian curry featuring tender paneer cheese and sweet green peas simmered in a fragrant, spicy tomato-based sauce.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp sunflower oil
- 450 g paneer
- 4 clove ginger
- 2 tsp cumin
- 2 tsp turmeric
- 2 tsp ground coriander
- 2 green chili
- 8 tomatoes
- 300 g peas
- 2 tsp garam masala
- ½ bunch fresh cilantro (optional)
- 4 naan bread (optional)
Steps
- Heat oil in a frying pan over high heat. Add paneer and fry until browned on all sides, then remove and drain on paper towels.
- Add ginger, cumin, turmeric, ground coriander, and green chili to the pan. Fry for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add tomatoes, mashing them with the back of a spoon. Simmer for 5 minutes until the sauce is fragrant, adding a splash of water if too thick.
- Season the sauce well with salt and pepper.
- Stir in the peas and simmer for 2 minutes.
- Add the fried paneer and sprinkle with garam masala, stirring to combine.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves, if desired, and serve hot with naan bread or rice.
