Ingredients

  • 14 oz paneer
  • 1½ cup green peas, frozen
  • 1 medium onions
  • 2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 15 oz canned crushed tomatoes
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tbsp ghee or vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • ½ tsp red chili powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp sugar (optional)
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro (optional)

Steps

  1. Cut the paneer into 1-inch cubes. Finely chop the onion.
  2. Heat ghee or oil in a large pot or deep skillet over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter for a few seconds. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Stir in ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder (if using), and salt. Cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and the oil separates from the sides, about 8-10 minutes.
  5. Add water, frozen peas, and paneer cubes. Bring to a simmer, then cover and cook for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and peas to cook through.
  6. Stir in garam masala and sugar (if using). Cook for another 2 minutes. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro, if desired, and serve hot with rice or naan.
