One-Pot Creamy Tomato Pasta with Sausage
A comforting and easy one-pot pasta dish featuring savory sausage, tender pasta, and a rich, creamy tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Italian sausage
- 1 medium onion
- 3 cloves garlic
- 28 oz crushed tomatoes
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 12 oz dried pasta (e.g., penne, rotini)
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ¼ cup Parmesan cheese (optional)
- ¼ cup fresh basil (optional)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
Steps
- Remove sausage from casings (if applicable) and brown in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess fat and set sausage aside.
- Add olive oil to the pot, then add chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Return the cooked sausage to the pot. Add crushed tomatoes, chicken broth, dried pasta, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until pasta is al dente, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Remove from heat and stir in the heavy cream until fully incorporated and the sauce is creamy.
- Serve immediately, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil, if desired.
