Pizza Express Margherita
Enjoy a classic Italian Margherita pizza at home, featuring a simple yeast dough, tangy tomato sauce, melted mozzarella, and fresh basil.
Ingredients
- 150 ml water
- 1 tsp sugar
- 15 g fresh yeast
- 225 g all-purpose flour
- 1½ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 80 g tomato sauce
- 70 g mozzarella
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- 8 fresh basil leaves (optional)
- ¼ tsp black pepper
Steps
- Preheat oven to 230°C (450°F). In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast; let stand 10-15 minutes until frothy.
- Sift flour and salt into a large bowl. Make a well, then pour in the yeast mixture and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Lightly oil a round baking tray.
- Press or roll the dough onto the prepared tray. Spread tomato sauce evenly over the dough, going to the edges.
- Distribute mozzarella over the tomato sauce. Season with oregano and black pepper, then drizzle with remaining olive oil.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly and slightly colored.
- Remove from oven, top with fresh basil leaves, and serve immediately.
