Shawarma Chuck Roast Wrap
Tender, slow-cooked chuck roast infused with aromatic Middle Eastern spices, perfect for stuffing into warm pita bread with your favorite garnishes.
Ingredients
- 2.2 lb chuck roast
- ½ cup beef broth
- 1½ tbsp lemon juice
- 1½ tbsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp ground ginger
- ½ tsp turmeric
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground coriander
- ⅛ tsp ground clove
- 4 pita bread
- ½ cup garlic sauce (optional)
- 1 cup shawarma garnishes (optional)
Steps
- In a slow cooker, combine beef broth, lemon juice, cumin, paprika, salt, ginger, turmeric, cayenne, cinnamon, cilantro, and clove. Stir well.
- Add the chuck roast to the slow cooker, turning to coat it with the spice mixture. Spoon some sauce over the top.
- Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the beef is very tender.
- Remove the beef from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Discard any excess fat.
- Skim any fat from the cooking liquid. Return the shredded beef to the sauce and mix to combine.
- To build wraps, spread garlic sauce on warm pita bread. Top with shredded shawarma beef and your desired garnishes.
- Fold the pita burrito-style. Heat a grill pan over medium-high heat and grill the wraps for 1-2 minutes per side until lightly toasted.
