Ingredients

  • 2.2 lb chuck roast
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1½ tbsp lemon juice
  • 1½ tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground coriander
  • ⅛ tsp ground clove
  • 4 pita bread
  • ½ cup garlic sauce (optional)
  • 1 cup shawarma garnishes (optional)

Steps

  1. In a slow cooker, combine beef broth, lemon juice, cumin, paprika, salt, ginger, turmeric, cayenne, cinnamon, cilantro, and clove. Stir well.
  2. Add the chuck roast to the slow cooker, turning to coat it with the spice mixture. Spoon some sauce over the top.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the beef is very tender.
  4. Remove the beef from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Discard any excess fat.
  5. Skim any fat from the cooking liquid. Return the shredded beef to the sauce and mix to combine.
  6. To build wraps, spread garlic sauce on warm pita bread. Top with shredded shawarma beef and your desired garnishes.
  7. Fold the pita burrito-style. Heat a grill pan over medium-high heat and grill the wraps for 1-2 minutes per side until lightly toasted.
