Spicy Arrabiata Penne

Ingredients

  • 1 lb penne rigate
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 3 clove garlic
  • 1 tin chopped tomatoes
  • ½ tsp red chili flakes
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • 6 basil leaves
  • 2 tbsp Parmigiano-Reggiano (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Steps

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook penne according to package directions until al dente.
  2. While pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Stir in chopped tomatoes, red chili flakes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring the sauce to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove the sauce from heat and stir in chopped fresh basil.
  5. Drain the cooked penne and add it directly to the sauce in the skillet, tossing to combine.
  6. Serve warm, garnished with grated Parmigiano-Reggiano and extra fresh basil, if desired.
