Spicy Arrabiata Penne
A classic spicy Italian pasta dish featuring al dente penne tossed in a rich tomato sauce with garlic, chili flakes, and fresh basil.
Ingredients
- 1 lb penne rigate
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 3 clove garlic
- 1 tin chopped tomatoes
- ½ tsp red chili flakes
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning
- 6 basil leaves
- 2 tbsp Parmigiano-Reggiano (optional)
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
Steps
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook penne according to package directions until al dente.
- While pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in chopped tomatoes, red chili flakes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring the sauce to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Remove the sauce from heat and stir in chopped fresh basil.
- Drain the cooked penne and add it directly to the sauce in the skillet, tossing to combine.
- Serve warm, garnished with grated Parmigiano-Reggiano and extra fresh basil, if desired.
