Tom Yum Goong (Hot & Sour Shrimp Soup)
A classic Thai hot and sour soup, bursting with aromatic herbs, spicy chilies, and succulent shrimp.
Ingredients
- 700 ml chicken broth
- 1 stalk lemongrass
- 5 slice galangal
- 6 cilantro roots
- 3 makrut lime leaves
- 6 large shrimp
- 3 tbsp fish sauce
- 6 green chilies
- 4 tbsp lime juice
- ¼ cup fresh cilantro leaves (optional)
Steps
- Bring the chicken broth to a boil in a medium saucepan.
- Add the lemongrass, galangal, cilantro roots, and makrut lime leaves to the boiling stock and simmer for 2 minutes.
- Add the shrimp, fish sauce, and green chilies, then return the soup to a boil.
- Stir in the lime juice.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with more lime juice or fish sauce if needed.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and serve immediately.
