Ingredients

  • 1½ lb flank steak
  • 1½ lb broccoli florets
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger
  • 3 clove garlic
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cup rice (optional)

Steps

  1. Slice beef against the grain into thin strips. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, beef broth, cornstarch, sesame oil, and brown sugar.
  2. Mince ginger and garlic. Add half of the ginger and garlic to the sauce mixture. Marinate beef in half of the remaining sauce for 15 minutes.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add broccoli florets and stir-fry until tender-crisp, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  4. Add remaining 1 tablespoon vegetable oil to the skillet. Add marinated beef and stir-fry until browned and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes. Remove beef and set aside.
  5. Add remaining ginger and garlic to the skillet and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Pour the remaining sauce mixture into the skillet and bring to a simmer, stirring constantly until it thickens.
  7. Return beef and broccoli to the skillet, tossing to coat evenly with the sauce.
  8. Serve immediately, optionally over steamed rice.
