Ingredients

  • 1½ lb flank steak
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup mirin
  • ¼ cup sake
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 2 clove garlic
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 4 cup broccoli florets
  • 2 carrot
  • 2 cup white rice
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (optional)
  • 2 green onions (optional)

Steps

  1. Thinly slice the flank steak against the grain. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, grated ginger, and minced garlic to create the teriyaki sauce.
  2. In a small bowl, dissolve cornstarch in water to make a slurry. Set aside.
  3. Heat sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced beef and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes. Remove beef from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Add broccoli florets and sliced carrots to the same skillet. Stir-fry for 5-7 minutes until vegetables are tender-crisp.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Pour the teriyaki sauce over the beef and vegetables and bring to a simmer.
  6. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
  7. Serve immediately over cooked white rice, garnished with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.
