Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 5 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 lemon
  • 3 clove garlic
  • 3 onion
  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 pinch salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Steps

  1. Marinate beef in soy sauce, the juice of one lemon, and a pinch of black pepper for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a pan. Pan-fry half of the sliced onions until soft and caramelized; set aside.
  3. Drain the marinade from the beef and reserve it. In the same pan, sear the beef for about 1 minute per side until browned, then remove and set aside.
  4. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the pan. Sauté minced garlic and the remaining raw sliced onions until the onions soften.
  5. Pour in the reserved marinade and 1 cup of water. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  6. Return the seared beef to the pan. Cover and simmer for 45-60 minutes, or until the beef is very tender, adding more water if needed.
  7. Season with additional salt and black pepper to taste. Top with the reserved pan-fried onions before serving hot.
