Carne Asada Tacos
Flavorful grilled skirt steak, thinly sliced and served in warm tortillas with fresh toppings for an authentic Mexican street food experience.
Ingredients
- 1½ lb skirt steak
- 2 limes
- ½ orange
- 4 clove garlic
- ½ bunch cilantro
- 1 jalape or serrano pepper (optional)
- ½ white onion
- 8 corn tortillas
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp cumin
- ½ tsp chili powder
- 1 avocado (optional)
- ½ cup salsa (optional)
Steps
- Pat the skirt steak dry. In a bowl, whisk together the juice of 1.5 limes, half an orange, minced garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper, cumin, and chili powder. Marinate the steak for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours.
- Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.
- Grill the steak for 3-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before thinly slicing against the grain.
- While the steak rests, finely chop the white onion and cilantro for toppings. If using, dice the jalape or serrano.
- Warm the corn tortillas on a dry skillet or microwave until pliable.
- Assemble tacos by placing sliced carne asada in warm tortillas. Top with chopped onion, cilantro, a squeeze of fresh lime juice, and optional avocado or salsa.
