Sausage Pizza
A beloved classic, this sausage pizza features a savory tomato sauce, mozzarella, and crumbled Italian sausage on a crispy crust.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Pizza dough
- ¾ lb Italian sausage
- 15 oz Crushed tomatoes
- 8 oz Mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 tbsp Olive oil
- ½ tsp Garlic powder
- ½ tsp Dried oregano
- ¼ tsp Salt
- ¼ tsp Black pepper
- ¼ tsp Red pepper flakes (optional)
- ¼ cup Fresh basil (optional)
Steps
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess grease and set aside.
- In a small bowl, combine crushed tomatoes, olive oil, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper (and red pepper flakes, if using) to make the pizza sauce.
- On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll out the pizza dough to your desired thickness. Carefully transfer the dough to a pizza peel dusted with cornmeal or a baking sheet.
- Spread the prepared pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese, then scatter the cooked sausage over the cheese.
- Bake for 12-18 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned. If using fresh basil, sprinkle it over the pizza after baking.
- Let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
