Greek Meatballs (Keftedes)
Savory Greek meatballs seasoned with herbs and often served with a squeeze of lemon, perfect as an appetizer or main dish.
Ingredients
- 1½ lb ground beef
- ½ cup onion
- 2 clove garlic
- ¼ cup fresh parsley
- 2 tbsp fresh mint
- 1 egg
- ½ cup bread crumbs
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 2 lemon wedges (optional)
Steps
- Finely chop the onion, mince the garlic, and finely chop the fresh parsley and mint.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, mint, egg, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, and oregano. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1-inch in diameter.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the meatballs in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
- Cook the meatballs, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes per batch.
- Remove cooked meatballs from the skillet and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Serve hot, optionally with fresh lemon wedges for squeezing.
