Jamaican Fried Dumplings

Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, these classic Jamaican fried dumplings are a delightful accompaniment to any meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1½ cup vegetable oil

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Pour in the milk and stir until a dough forms. Lightly knead the dough until it comes together.
  3. Break off about 10 pieces of dough and roll them into small balls.
  4. Heat oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).
  5. Carefully place dumplings into the hot oil and fry until browned on one side, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Flip the dumplings and cook until the other side is also golden brown.
  7. Remove fried dumplings from the oil and place them on paper towels or a cooling rack to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve hot and enjoy as a side dish.
