Kielbasa with Pierogies and Onions
A hearty and comforting Eastern European-inspired dish featuring pan-fried kielbasa, tender pierogies, and caramelized onions.
Ingredients
- 14 oz smoked kielbasa sausage
- 16 oz frozen potato and cheese pierogies
- 1 yellow onion
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- ½ cup sour cream (optional)
- 2 tbsp fresh dill (optional)
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
Steps
- Slice the kielbasa into 1/2-inch thick rounds and dice the yellow onion.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the kielbasa and cook for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned. Remove kielbasa from the skillet and set aside, leaving any drippings.
- Add butter to the same skillet. Add the diced onions and cook over medium heat for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and caramelized. Season with salt and pepper.
- Add the frozen pierogies to the skillet with the onions. Cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and heated through.
- Return the cooked kielbasa to the skillet with the pierogies and onions. Toss gently to combine and heat through for 2-3 minutes.
- Serve hot, optionally with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of fresh dill.
