Pâté Chinois
A comforting Canadian classic, this Pâté Chinois features seasoned ground beef, a creamy layer of corn, and a fluffy mashed potato topping, baked until golden.
Ingredients
- 4 cup potatoes
- 4 tbsp butter
- ½ cup milk
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion
- 2 cup creamed corn
- 1 tsp paprika (optional)
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley (optional)
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
Steps
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook potatoes in salted water until very tender, then drain.
- Mash potatoes with 2 tablespoons butter and milk until smooth. Season with salt and pepper; set aside.
- In a large skillet, melt remaining 2 tablespoons butter and sauté onion until softened. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Season with salt and pepper.
- Press the cooked beef mixture evenly into the bottom of an 8-inch square baking dish.
- Spread the creamed corn over the beef layer, then top with the mashed potatoes. Sprinkle with paprika and parsley, if using.
- Bake for 30 minutes, then broil for a few minutes until the top is golden brown. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
