Sausage and Gnocchi Skillet
A hearty and comforting one-pan meal featuring savory Italian sausage, tender potato gnocchi, and fresh spinach in a rich tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Italian sausage, mild or hot
- 1 tbsp Olive oil
- 1 medium Yellow onion
- 3 cloves Garlic
- 28 oz Crushed tomatoes
- 17½ oz Potato gnocchi
- 5 oz Fresh spinach
- ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated (optional)
- ½ tsp Red pepper flakes (optional)
- ½ tsp Salt
- ¼ tsp Black pepper
- 2 tbsp Fresh basil, chopped (optional)
Steps
- Remove sausage from casings. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then add the uncooked gnocchi directly to the skillet. Stir gently to coat.
- Cover the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the gnocchi are tender and cooked through.
- Stir in the fresh spinach until it wilts, about 1-2 minutes.
- Serve immediately, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil, if desired.
