Wonton Soup with Pork and Shrimp
A comforting and savory soup featuring delicate pork and shrimp wontons in a flavorful broth, perfect for a cozy meal.
Ingredients
- ½ lb ground pork
- ½ lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 40 wonton wrappers
- 6 cup chicken broth
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp ginger, grated
- 2 clove garlic, minced
- 4 scallions, sliced
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 egg white
- ¼ tsp white pepper (optional)
- 4 oz bok choy, chopped (optional)
Steps
- Finely chop the shrimp. In a bowl, combine ground pork, chopped shrimp, 2 sliced scallions, grated ginger, minced garlic, cornstarch, egg white, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and 1 teaspoon sesame oil. Mix well.
- Place about 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges with water and fold into desired wonton shape, pressing to seal.
- In a large pot, bring chicken broth to a simmer. Stir in the remaining 1 tablespoon soy sauce and 2 teaspoons sesame oil.
- Carefully add the wontons to the simmering broth. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until wontons float and are cooked through. If using, add bok choy during the last 2 minutes of cooking.
- Ladle the wonton soup into bowls. Garnish with the remaining sliced scallions and a dash of white pepper, if desired. Serve hot.
