American Beef Goulash

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 14½ oz canned diced tomatoes
  • 15 oz canned tomato sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1½ cups elbow macaroni
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley (optional)

Steps

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add chopped onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in minced garlic, paprika, and Italian seasoning; cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Pour in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  4. Stir in the elbow macaroni. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until pasta is tender, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  5. Remove from heat and let stand for a few minutes. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with shredded cheddar cheese and fresh parsley, if desired.
