American Goulash
A comforting one-pot meal featuring ground beef, macaroni, and tomatoes in a savory sauce, perfect for a hearty family dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 8 oz elbow macaroni
- 1 medium onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 28 oz crushed tomatoes
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ¾ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ½ cup cheddar cheese, shredded (optional)
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Steps
- Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Add chopped onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic, paprika, and oregano, cooking for another minute until fragrant.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes, beef broth, water, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Stir in the elbow macaroni. Cover the pot and reduce heat to low. Cook for 15-20 minutes, or until macaroni is tender, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Remove from heat and let stand for a few minutes. If desired, stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh chopped parsley if using.
