Beef and Lamb Gyro Bowl
Enjoy the classic flavors of a Greek gyro in a convenient and healthy bowl, featuring seasoned beef and lamb, fresh vegetables, and creamy tzatziki.
Ingredients
- ¾ lb ground beef
- ¾ lb ground lamb
- 4 pita bread (optional)
- 1 cucumber
- ½ red onion
- 2 Roma tomatoes
- 1 head romaine lettuce
- 1 lemon
- 2 clove garlic
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 2 tbsp fresh dill (optional)
- 1½ tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Steps
- Grate half of the cucumber and finely chop the garlic. In a small bowl, combine Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, chopped garlic, 1 tablespoon of fresh dill (if using), and a squeeze of lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper to taste; set aside to let flavors meld.
- Dice the remaining cucumber, tomatoes, and red onion. Roughly chop the romaine lettuce. Set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and ground lamb. Break up the meat with a spoon and cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes.
- Drain any excess grease from the meat. Stir in oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, until fragrant.
- Warm pita bread in a dry skillet or microwave, if using.
- To assemble the bowls, divide the chopped romaine lettuce among four bowls. Top with the seasoned beef and lamb mixture.
- Arrange the diced cucumber, tomatoes, and red onion around the meat.
- Drizzle generously with the prepared tzatziki sauce. Serve immediately, with warm pita bread on the side if desired.
