Carolina-Style BBQ Pork
Tender, slow-cooked pork shoulder shredded and tossed in a tangy, vinegar-based Carolina BBQ sauce, perfect for sandwiches.
Ingredients
- 2 lb pork shoulder
- 1½ cup apple cider vinegar
- ½ cup water
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 4 buns (optional)
- 2 cup coleslaw (optional)
Steps
- Pat the pork shoulder dry and season generously with salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker.
- In a bowl, whisk together apple cider vinegar, water, brown sugar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, red pepper flakes, and black pepper to create the Carolina BBQ sauce.
- Pour the sauce over the pork shoulder in the slow cooker. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the pork is very tender and easily shreds.
- Carefully remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Discard any excess fat.
- Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir it into the sauce, ensuring it's well coated.
- Serve the Carolina-style BBQ pork warm on buns, optionally topped with coleslaw.
