Chicken Souvlaki
Enjoy the fresh, vibrant flavors of Greece with tender marinated chicken skewers, grilled to perfection and served with warm pita and tzatziki.
Ingredients
- 1½ lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 1 lemon
- 4 tbsp olive oil
- 4 clove garlic
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 8 wooden skewers
- 4 pita bread
- ¾ cup tzatziki sauce (optional)
- ½ red onion (optional)
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes (optional)
- ½ cucumber (optional)
Steps
- If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning.
- Cut chicken thighs into 1-inch cubes. In a bowl, combine chicken with the juice of one lemon, olive oil, minced garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well and marinate for at least 20 minutes, or up to 4 hours in the refrigerator.
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Thread the marinated chicken onto the soaked skewers.
- Grill the chicken skewers for 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked through and nicely charred.
- Warm the pita bread on the grill for 30 seconds per side, or until soft and slightly toasted.
- Serve the grilled chicken souvlaki immediately with warm pita bread, a generous dollop of tzatziki, and optional fresh toppings like sliced red onion, cherry tomatoes, and cucumber.
