Classic Gyro

Enjoy the classic flavors of a Greek gyro with tender sliced lamb and beef, crisp vegetables, and creamy tzatziki sauce all wrapped in warm pita bread.

Ingredients

  • 1½ lb lamb and beef gyro meat
  • 4 pita bread
  • 1 cucumber
  • ¾ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 clove garlic
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp fresh dill
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ red onion
  • 2 tomato
  • 2 cup lettuce

Steps

  1. Finely grate the cucumber and squeeze out excess water. In a bowl, combine the grated cucumber, Greek yogurt, minced garlic, lemon juice, chopped fresh dill, a drizzle of olive oil, salt, and pepper to make the tzatziki sauce. Mix well and refrigerate.
  2. Thinly slice the red onion, tomatoes, and lettuce. Set aside for assembly.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the gyro meat and cook according to package directions until heated through and slightly crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Warm the pita bread in a dry skillet or microwave for about 30 seconds per side until soft and pliable.
  5. To assemble, spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce on each warm pita. Layer with cooked gyro meat, sliced red onion, tomato, and lettuce.
  6. Fold or roll the pita to create a wrap and serve immediately.
