Classic Gyro
Enjoy the classic flavors of a Greek gyro with tender sliced lamb and beef, crisp vegetables, and creamy tzatziki sauce all wrapped in warm pita bread.
Ingredients
- 1½ lb lamb and beef gyro meat
- 4 pita bread
- 1 cucumber
- ¾ cup plain Greek yogurt
- 2 clove garlic
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp fresh dill
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- ½ red onion
- 2 tomato
- 2 cup lettuce
Steps
- Finely grate the cucumber and squeeze out excess water. In a bowl, combine the grated cucumber, Greek yogurt, minced garlic, lemon juice, chopped fresh dill, a drizzle of olive oil, salt, and pepper to make the tzatziki sauce. Mix well and refrigerate.
- Thinly slice the red onion, tomatoes, and lettuce. Set aside for assembly.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the gyro meat and cook according to package directions until heated through and slightly crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
- Warm the pita bread in a dry skillet or microwave for about 30 seconds per side until soft and pliable.
- To assemble, spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce on each warm pita. Layer with cooked gyro meat, sliced red onion, tomato, and lettuce.
- Fold or roll the pita to create a wrap and serve immediately.
