Classic Shrimp Boil

Ingredients

  • 1½ lb large shrimp, shell-on, deveined
  • 12 oz smoked sausage (Andouille or Kielbasa), sliced
  • 1½ lb baby red potatoes
  • 4 ears of corn, husked and halved
  • ¼ cup Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • 4 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted (optional)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • 1 tsp hot sauce (optional)
  • 12 cup water
  • 1 tbsp salt

Steps

  1. In a large stockpot, combine water, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and garlic. Bring to a rolling boil.
  2. Add potatoes to the boiling water and cook for 10-12 minutes, or until just tender.
  3. Add the smoked sausage and corn to the pot and continue to cook for another 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the shrimp and cook for 2-4 minutes, or until the shrimp turn pink and opaque. Do not overcook.
  5. Carefully drain the entire contents of the pot. Discard the lemon halves.
  6. Pour the shrimp boil onto a large serving platter or directly onto a newspaper-covered table. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
  7. Serve immediately with melted butter and hot sauce on the side for dipping.
