Classic Tater Tot Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ yellow onion
  • 10½ oz cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1½ cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 16 oz frozen tater tots
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x9 inch baking dish.
  2. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the beef and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the cream of mushroom soup and milk until well combined.
  5. Spread the beef mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the beef mixture.
  6. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese over the hot tater tots and return to the oven for 5 minutes, or until melted and bubbly.
  8. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
