Falafel
Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, these Turkish falafel patties are seasoned with cumin and cilantro, perfect for a satisfying vegetarian meal.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp sunflower oil
- 1 onion
- 1 clove garlic
- 15 oz chickpeas
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- ¼ cup fresh parsley
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp salt (optional)
- ¼ tsp black pepper (optional)
Steps
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large pan over low heat. Add the chopped onion and crushed garlic, frying for 5 minutes until softened.
- Transfer the softened onion and garlic to a large mixing bowl. Add the drained chickpeas, ground cumin, and ground coriander. Mash thoroughly until the chickpeas are broken down.
- Stir in the chopped parsley and season with salt and pepper to taste. Add the beaten egg and mix everything together with your hands until well combined.
- Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and shape each into a ball, then flatten into patties.
- Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil in the same pan over medium heat.
- Fry the falafel patties for 3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and firm.
- Serve the falafel hot or cold with your choice of couscous, pita bread, or a fresh salad.
