French Dip Sandwich
A classic French Dip sandwich features thinly sliced roast beef piled high on a crusty baguette, served with a rich, savory au jus for dipping.
Ingredients
- 1½ lb roast beef, thinly sliced deli style
- 4 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- 2 loaf baguette
- 2 tbsp butter (optional)
- 4 slice provolone cheese (optional)
Steps
- In a medium saucepan, combine beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Reduce heat to low and keep the au jus warm. If desired, lightly butter the cut sides of the baguettes and toast them in a skillet or oven until golden.
- Add the thinly sliced roast beef to the warm au jus for 1-2 minutes, just long enough to heat through without overcooking.
- If using, place a slice of provolone cheese on one half of each toasted baguette. Briefly return to the oven or skillet to melt the cheese.
- Carefully remove the beef from the au jus using tongs and pile generously onto the prepared baguette halves.
- Serve the sandwiches immediately with small bowls of the warm au jus for dipping.
