Griddled Turkish Flatbreads
Soft and slightly chewy griddled flatbreads, perfect for dipping or serving alongside your favorite Turkish dishes.
Ingredients
- ½ lb strong whole wheat flour
- ½ lb strong white bread flour
- 15 g active dry yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1½ cup warm water
Steps
- In a food processor, combine flours, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add warm water and olive oil, then process to form a soft dough. Mix for 1 minute.
- Transfer dough to a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough to release air, then divide in half on a floured surface. Roll each half into a rectangle (about 8x16 inches) and trim edges.
- Cut each rectangle into eight 4-inch squares. Arrange on baking sheets lined with parchment paper and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Heat a griddle or heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat. Cook flatbreads for 1-2 minutes per side, until puffed and lightly browned.
- Serve warm with your favorite dips or as a side to a main dish.
