Ground Beef and Shells
A comforting and hearty skillet meal featuring seasoned ground beef, tender pasta shells, and a savory tomato sauce, perfect for a family dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 8 oz medium pasta shells
- 14½ oz diced tomatoes
- 15 oz tomato sauce
- 2 cup beef broth
- 1 medium onion
- 2 clove garlic
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded (optional)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Steps
- Dice the onion and mince the garlic.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook for 3-5 minutes until the onion softens.
- Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Add the pasta shells to the skillet, stirring to ensure they are submerged in the liquid. Cover and reduce heat to medium-low.
- Cook for 12-15 minutes, or until pasta is al dente and most of the liquid has been absorbed, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Remove from heat. If desired, stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted. Let stand for a few minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh chopped parsley, if using, and serve warm.
