Ham and Scalloped Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 2 lb Russet potatoes
  • 1 lb Cooked ham
  • 4 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 4 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 2½ cup Whole milk
  • 1½ cup Cheddar cheese
  • ½ tsp Garlic powder
  • ½ tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Black pepper
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley (optional)

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes (about 1/8 inch thick). Dice the cooked ham into 1/2 inch cubes.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth, then bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until cheese is melted and sauce is smooth.
  5. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Top with half of the diced ham, then pour half of the cheese sauce over evenly.
  6. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, ham, and cheese sauce. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese over the top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  8. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
