Ham and Scalloped Potatoes
Creamy, cheesy scalloped potatoes baked with tender ham make for a comforting and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 2 lb Russet potatoes
- 1 lb Cooked ham
- 4 tbsp Unsalted butter
- 4 tbsp All-purpose flour
- 2½ cup Whole milk
- 1½ cup Cheddar cheese
- ½ tsp Garlic powder
- ½ tsp Onion powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- ½ tsp Black pepper
- 2 tbsp Fresh parsley (optional)
Steps
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Peel and thinly slice the potatoes (about 1/8 inch thick). Dice the cooked ham into 1/2 inch cubes.
- In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth, then bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until cheese is melted and sauce is smooth.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Top with half of the diced ham, then pour half of the cheese sauce over evenly.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes, ham, and cheese sauce. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese over the top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown and bubbly.
- Let stand for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
