Hearty Turkey Chili
A warm and comforting chili packed with lean ground turkey, beans, and classic chili spices, perfect for a cozy meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 yellow onion
- 3 garlic cloves
- 1 bell pepper
- 28 oz diced tomatoes
- 15 oz kidney beans
- 15 oz black beans
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tbsp cumin
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- ¼ cup sour cream (optional)
- ¼ cup fresh cilantro (optional)
Steps
- Dice the onion and bell pepper, and mince the garlic.
- Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the pot. Sauté until vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, until fragrant.
- Add diced tomatoes (undrained), rinsed and drained kidney beans, rinsed and drained black beans, and chicken broth. Bring to a simmer.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and let the chili simmer for at least 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow flavors to meld.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Serve hot, garnished with shredded cheese, sour cream, or fresh cilantro, if desired.
