Kofta Burgers with Pita and Yogurt Sauce
Flavorful Turkish lamb kofta burgers, seasoned with garam masala and fresh herbs, served in warm pita bread with crisp vegetables and a cooling yogurt sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground lamb
- 1 onion
- 4 clove garlic
- 3 tbsp garam masala
- ½ bunch fresh cilantro
- ½ tbsp chili sauce (optional)
- 4 pita bread
- 2 tomato
- ¼ head red cabbage
- ½ red onion
- ½ cup plain yogurt
- 1 tsp salt
Steps
- Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic. Roughly chop the fresh cilantro.
- In a large bowl, combine ground lamb, chopped onion, minced garlic, garam masala, chopped cilantro, chili sauce (if using), and salt. Mix thoroughly with your hands until well combined.
- Form the mixture into 8 small patties (2 per serving).
- Preheat your grill to its highest setting. Arrange the patties in a single layer on a baking tray.
- Grill the kofta patties for 5-6 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through.
- While kofta cooks, slice the tomatoes and red onion, and thinly shred the red cabbage. Warm the pita bread.
- Serve the cooked kofta patties in warm pita bread with sliced tomato, shredded red cabbage, sliced red onion, and a dollop of plain yogurt.
