Ingredients

  • 8 slice white bread
  • ½ lb deli ham
  • ½ lb deli turkey
  • 8 slice Swiss cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar (optional)
  • ¼ cup raspberry jam (optional)

Steps

  1. Assemble four sandwiches: spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on one side of each of 8 bread slices. Layer 2 slices of Swiss cheese, then ham, then turkey, then another 2 slices of Swiss cheese onto 4 of the bread slices, then top with the remaining bread slices.
  2. In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs and milk until well combined.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  4. Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are fully coated.
  5. Place 1-2 dipped sandwiches into the hot skillet, cooking for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted. Add more butter as needed for subsequent sandwiches.
  6. Remove sandwiches from the skillet and cut each in half, often diagonally.
  7. Dust with powdered sugar and serve immediately with a side of raspberry jam for dipping, if desired.
