Pan-Seared Pork Chops with Apples and Onions
Juicy pan-seared pork chops are complemented by sweet and savory caramelized apples and onions in this classic comfort dish.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless pork chops
- ¾ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 yellow onion
- 2 Gala apples
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp fresh thyme (optional)
Steps
- Pat pork chops dry and season generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear pork chops for 3-5 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature of 145°F). Remove chops from skillet and set aside on a plate, tented with foil.
- Reduce heat to medium. Add butter to the skillet. Once melted, add sliced onion and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened.
- Add sliced apples to the skillet with the onions and cook for another 5-7 minutes, until apples are tender and slightly caramelized. Stir in apple cider vinegar and fresh thyme (if using), scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
- Return pork chops to the skillet and toss gently with the apple and onion mixture to warm through. Serve immediately.
