Ingredients

  • 1½ lb ribeye steak
  • 8 slice provolone cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 1 bell pepper (optional)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Steps

  1. Thinly slice the ribeye steak against the grain and chop the onion and bell pepper (if using).
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Add the sliced steak and cook quickly until browned, about 2-3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Remove steak from the skillet and set aside. Add butter to the skillet, then add onions and bell peppers. Sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Return the steak to the skillet with the vegetables. Mix well.
  5. Divide the steak and vegetable mixture into four portions on the skillet. Place two slices of provolone cheese over each portion.
  6. Cover the skillet briefly to allow the cheese to melt, about 1-2 minutes.
  7. Lightly toast the hoagie rolls. Using a spatula, scoop each cheesy steak portion into a toasted roll.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy your classic Philly Cheesesteak.
