Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes
A fun, deconstructed take on the classic Philly Cheesesteak, served as a hearty sloppy joe.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion
- 1 medium green bell pepper
- 2 cloves garlic
- ½ cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 4 provolone cheese slices
- 4 hoagie rolls
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
Steps
- Dice the onion and bell pepper. Mince the garlic.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess grease.
- Add diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet with the beef. Cook until vegetables soften, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- In a small bowl, whisk together beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and cornstarch. Pour the mixture into the skillet with the beef and vegetables. Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
- Season the sloppy joe mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
- Split hoagie rolls and lightly toast if desired. Spoon a generous amount of the sloppy joe mixture onto each roll.
- Top each sloppy joe with a slice of provolone cheese. Serve immediately.
