Reuben Sandwich
A classic American deli sandwich featuring corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing grilled between slices of rye bread.
Ingredients
- 8 slice rye bread
- 1 lb corned beef, thinly sliced
- 8 slice Swiss cheese
- 1½ cup sauerkraut, drained
- ½ cup Russian dressing
- 4 tbsp butter, softened
Steps
- Spread butter on one side of each slice of rye bread.
- Lay 4 slices of bread, butter-side down, on a clean surface. Spread Russian dressing on the unbuttered side of these slices.
- Layer each of the 4 slices with 2 slices of Swiss cheese, then a generous portion of corned beef, and finally about 1/4 cup of drained sauerkraut.
- Top with the remaining 4 slices of bread, butter-side up, to form four sandwiches.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place sandwiches in the skillet and grill for 3-5 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Remove from skillet, slice each sandwich in half, and serve immediately.
