Runza Casserole
A comforting casserole inspired by the classic Runza sandwich, featuring ground beef, cabbage, and onions baked under a cheesy, doughy crust.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ head cabbage
- 1 yellow onion
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ¾ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 can canned crescent roll dough
- 1 cup cheddar cheese
- ¼ cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp butter
Steps
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain excess fat and set beef aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter. Add chopped onion and shredded cabbage. Cook until softened, about 8-10 minutes.
- Return beef to the skillet with the cabbage and onions. Stir in garlic powder, salt, pepper, and beef broth. Mix well.
- Spread the beef and cabbage mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Unroll the crescent roll dough and place it over the cheese layer, pinching seams together to form a solid crust.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the crescent roll crust is golden brown and cooked through.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
