Salisbury Steak with Gravy
Classic Salisbury steak patties smothered in a rich mushroom and onion gravy, perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 1½ lb ground beef
- ½ cup bread crumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ¾ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 onion
- 8 oz cremini mushrooms
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley (optional)
Steps
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, then form into 4 oval patties.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Remove patties and set aside.
- Reduce heat to medium. Add butter to the skillet. Sauté sliced onions and mushrooms until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Bring to a simmer, stirring until the gravy thickens.
- Return the Salisbury steak patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until cooked through.
- Stir in Dijon mustard if using. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
